My process has revealed more of the power of masks. Expressions are tools to make known one’s thoughts or feelings and to convey a particular emotion. Mentally and physically we mask our emotions and our bodies to the outside world which makes us feel safe and in control.
The ‘need’ to hold on to this specific image of perfection triggered me to explore the possibilities of expressions through mask making. Utilising more abstract aspects like experimenting with color, shape, patterns, texture, perception, feeling and recognition, became the basis for my research.
